Weaving Experiments

Two parallel rectangles, one slightly larger than the other, with asymmetrical, geometric patterns. On the left, horizontal bands in blue, black, white with contrasting bands of green as well as two sets of triangles, alternately mirrored along horizontal and vertical axes, in white and light blue. On the right, horizontal bands in many colors with small rectangles interspersed throughout and a singular quarter circle. Both are densely woven with loose ends extending beyond their tight edges.

Statement from the Artist

The pieces I brought are very recently woven on a Mirrix small loom. I just grabbed the most recent things that I have worked on, even though they were not from used, worn or discarded materials. Also I’ve been separated from most of my “stash” due to changes in circumstances and ironically that led to using essentially new materials. (So honestly perhaps the work doesn’t belong in the archive??? I’m okay with that.) On the other hand, generally, weaving on the small loom does lend itself to using used, found and recycled materials, which I plan to get into once I feel more comfortable with the basics.
