Statement from the Artist

This is an ongoing weaving project that incorporates carefully chosen personal items and fabrics of patients who have died on the VNS Health Hospice program. Each individual piece has been supplied by the surviving family members for the purpose of honoring and remembering their loved one. The weavings are displayed in the VNS office, at the annual memorial service and as a centerpiece for in-office bereavement support group circles. The weavings offer the grieving families an additional place of remembrance. They provide a visual, tangible item to reflect on the collective experience and the importance of coming together to support one another. For the hospice staff the weavings help to remind us of the many lives we have offered end of life care to. One of the things that makes hospice care different from other forms of medical care is that we support the whole family through bereavement services.
