Dad Plaid

A self-supporting crochet vessel with a square base and thick edges. A dense mix of jewel-tone colors and patterns such as plaid, gingham, stripes, and checkers. A “fruit of the loom” tag protrudes at the bottom and a wooden cube painted blue with the letter “A” carved out is attached to the side.

Statement from the Artist

I made this basket in the still hopeful time of dads in plaid and hot dishes. The textiles, flannels and cottons, are from pj bottoms and shirts. Most of the old clothes are from Amyas, my friend's son, who has outgrown them. Amyas has the same birthday as my dad. I played blocks a lot with my dad.
